Jean Michel Jarre really needs no introduction. He was making music before anyone of us at Elektron was born. We caught up with him after his concert in Berlin and over a glass of wine and some pasta we listened to what he had to say about machines, humans and cooking.



For this tour you have been using only vintage gear. Old analog synthesizers can be a bit… sensitive sometimes. Have you had any problems during this tour?

Yeah, during the concert tonight I had some problems and had to turn off one of the synthesizers several times. Did you notice that?

Well, actually not. I didn’t notice a thing.

Sometimes there have also been a bit of a problem with the tune drifting. We start each concert tuning the synthesizers but sometimes things happen during the show. But in all things have worked fine given the age of the synthesizers. Actually the first synthesizer I ever bought is with me on this tour. It was the EMS VCS 3. I bought back in 1967 in London and I had to sell a guitar and a lot of old toys from my childhood to afford it. I have not had to repair it ever. Touch wood…
